To me, the biggest difference is the high-resolution screen. If your eyes can take it—and I'm approaching the age where I have to hold things farther away from my eyes to read them—the extra $100 for the 1920x1200 display is money well-spent. As I've said before, I love having vast amounts of screen real estate, which is why I run two 20" and a single 23" LCD on my Mac Pro, and I use it well. This MacBook Pro is the closest I have been able to come to replicating my desktop workflow on a laptop. If you're a graphics or video professional, you'll find the high-res display to be useful, and I strongly recommend spending the extra money for it.

I would have liked to have seen the LED backlight come to the 17" model as well as the 15" model. That said, the CCFLs used in the 17" laptops allow for even light distribution and in comparing the 17" laptops to the 15" LED-backlit models, I could see no discernable difference in brightness or image quality between the CCFL and LED models, and the reports we have received from our readers confirm that observation. If you really want LED backlights, go with the 15" model or wait a few months for them to propagate across the Apple laptop lineup.

[...]The latest MacBook Pros are a solid upgrade from their predecessor, thanks to the new Santa Rosa platform. If you already have a 17" MacBook Pro and aren't dying for the higher-resolution display, don't bother upgrading. If, however, you have been sitting on the fence with an old G4 or Core Duo laptop, this is a worthy upgrade. If you like your laptops large and in charge, I strongly recommend the 17" MacBook Pro.

802.11n support is there from the get-go (instead of being available as a $1.99 update)
:D

@Hitthecow:

Akkulaufzeit beim kleinen resultiert vor allem ausm LED-Display.
