Zitat
he PxVC1100 is a high performance MPEG-2/H.264 transcoding card that makes quick work of some CPU intensive tasks, such as:
  • Transcoding and Encoding video
  • Inter-transcoding between H.264 and MPEG-2
  • Up convert SD/DVD video to full HD resolution video
  • Supporting authoring and burning on DVD/AVCHD!

he Cell processor is capable of some impressive video processing, and Toshiba has taken the Cell and modified it into a multi-media powerhouse, which they call the Spurs Engine. The model that we’re using comes from Toshiba in the form of the SE 1000. The SE 1000 uses 4 of the 8 available SPE’s from the Cell. Two of the missing SPE’s are replaced with hardware MPEG-2 encoder and decoders.

The Leadtek PxVC1100 with the Spurs Engine does a great job of speeding up the encoding time over our 4GHz Core i7! With nearly a 50% speed up on the DVD rip, it can really cut down on the time spent waiting for your movies to be converted!

quality between the two shows a noticeable improvement. This is a great step for those of you with older home movies that want to increase the quality for archiving.

All in all, this is a solid product that does what it claims, but is outside of what mainstream users need. If you find yourself spending a large amount of time encoding/transcoding video, then it may be worth your while to give the Leadtek PxVC1100 a go. Besides, how many people can say they have a Cell processor in their PC?
