The NZXT Whisper is a very surprising case, one I’m still not totally sure about. First off it’s not the best to look at when the system is off, but when powered on, it becomes something else, with its evil blue glow which happens to do a very good job of irritating the user in the dark. The main factor NZXT boast about this enclosure is its silence which indeed is something NZXT should be proud of having achieved. It’s not the quietest of cases I’ve experienced, but it dampens the noise from components and fans very well.

I was a bit let down by the inclusion of no front intake fan for the main case section, as this is an important part of cooling any rig. Another slight problem is the build quality of some parts of it; the flimsy low quality plastic used throughout this case really annoys me. Plastic like this breaks and snaps very easy and replacing the odd part on a PC case isn’t exactly the easiest thing to do.

The NZXT Whisper has quite a bit going for it, not the least of which is its apparent ability to silence even the nosiest of devices. Solidly designed and constructed, the use of foam dampening works to quiet fans and vibrations, giving a much needed peace to users. The drive bays all utilize a wonderfully implemented tool-less design, making adding and removing drives easy for the end user. NZXT also implemented a nice cable management system that works to cut down on case clutter, taking into account the hard drive bays below the chamber seperater. The “hidden” USB ports on the top are a nice touch and work well to maintain the overall clean exterior appearance.

Unfortunately, one area the Whisper lacks in is efficient cooling. We feel that with an additional fan pulling air into the middle chamber, the Whisper might have performed considerably better. However, in its default state, the Whisper is just able to keep the GPU and CPU within their respective temperature limits. The Whisper isn’t a bad performer in regard to temperature, it just isn’t the best. With modification or the addition of extra fans, the Whisper could perform more in line with the other silent cases of its class. NZXT has designed a good product, however it’s just not as good as it could be.
