While it’s fair to say the Venomous-X is no slouch when it comes to cooling performance, it’s certainly no champion either. In fact, even with a high–airflow fan attached, the Venomous-X couldn’t better the Ultra 120 eXtreme 1366 RT, which is a combination of the heatsink it’s meant to replace and a less aggressive fan. With this in mind, it’s hard to consider the Venomous-X as anything but a disappointment on the cooling front.

[...]It’s tough at the top; a phrase that applies as much heatsinks and computer components as any other field. Following up on a product as dominant as the TRUE was always going to be tough, especially considering the high quality competition that’s emerged in the last few years. Sadly for Thermalright, the Venomous-X fails to match, let alone better, the TRUE’s performance. A high price and the lack of cooling fan don’t help matters either, leaving the Venomous-X an underwhelming and ultimately disappointing follow up. The Fenrir is still the high performance cooler to beat.
