up2date hat bei mir nie wirklich funktioniert, hat sich immer ständig aufgehängt.

Mache folgendes:

1) Deinstalliere OpenOffice von Hand. Mir ist gerade eingefallen das die alte Version deinstalliert werden muss und nicht upgraded werden kann.

2) Dann Update mit Yum auf Fedora Core 1 Final

Also, ich hab meine yum.conf jetzt auch mal ein bissal umeditiert, Core 1 hab ich händisch eintragen müssen, da yum immer Core 0 gemeldet hat :S

Schön langsam hab ich den Überblick verloren, welche Version ich jetzt verwende, und welche Pakete.
Hoffe dass mein dahingewurschtelter Versionsdschungel noch halbwegs reperabel ist.

Was mir noch einfällt - wie siehts mit der Aktivierung eines Proxys aus, ich hab gelesen die Variable http_proxy muss angepasst werden.

Funkt das eh mit:
export http_proxy=proxyserver ?

thx @Phillip, hat alles geklappt.
Nach dem Update hab ich aber trotzdem die redheat-release per rpm updaten müssen, ich wunder mich warum.

BTW:
Es scheint als ob das Löschen von oofice nicht nötig gewesen wäre, da ich zuerst einmal das Update mit OOfice gemacht hab, und danach oofice gelöscht hab und gecheckt, ob yum dann noch was updatet - hat aber nichts mehr gemacht und gemeldet, dass die neuesten Updates eingespielt sind.

bin jetzt durch deinen Post auf gDesklets aufmerksam geworden, nur läufts bei mir in Fedora nicht wirklich.

Fedora Core hat jetzt eine Debian ähnliche Paketstruktur. Viele dieser Updates stehen daher erst in testing zur Verfügung.

Es gibt aber eine signifikante Änderung: Einige Pakete werden gleich in testing veröffentlicht, ohne den Umweg unstable (also Development/Rawhide) zu gehen. Diese Pakete erscheinen dann nicht in unstable. Wer also nur Development/Rawhide als YUM Quelle verwendet, entgeht das eine oder andere Paket.

Desktop Performance: Fedora vs. Debian
Ich habe in der zwischenzeit Fedora auf etwas antiker Hardware mit 64MB Ram ausprobiert und mit Debian SID verglichen. Das Ergebnis ist interessant.

GNOME 2.4
Debian: Unerträglich langsam, fast kein vernüftiges Arbeiten möglich.
Fedora: Etwas zäh, aber durchaus akzeptable Performance. Spürbar schneller als unter Debian.

KDE 3.1.4
Debian: Akzeptable Performance. Zwar etwas langsam aber durchaus brauchbar.
Fedora: Zeitlupen Tempo mit massiven Festplattenzugriffen. Langsamer als unter Debian

Alles in allen bietet Fedora den derzeit schnellsten GNOME 2.4 Desktop. Ingesamt doch ein sehr überraschendes Ergebnis, vorallem wenn man bedenkt das Redhat als Minimum 192MB Ram emphielt
