* News now supports displaying the size column in KB or in Lines (via a hidden pref).
* Server wide news filters have been implemented.
* LDAP v3 support has been added.
* Addressbook auto-completion has been improved.
* 1.8a1 fixes an issue with listboxes that caused mail to display multiple attachments incorrectly. Additionally, mail sorting scrolls to keep the currently selected message in view.

Under the Hood
* Mozilla now has support for CSS2 quotes.
* The XUL Tree widget has undergone significant changes. You read more about that here
* The number of cookies Mozilla will hold has been dramatically increased and a hidden pref added for the few users who need even more.

Mein Mozilla (1.7b) braucht derzeit gerade 87 MB. OK, das ist viel, aber andererseits nichtmal 9% meines RAMs. Who cares?

Du willst also damit sagen, dass Programme ruhig Speicher fressen können en masse, weil eh jeder genug RAM hat? Juhu! Weg mit dir, free(), dich brauch ich ja jetzt wohl nicht mehr.

Ich bevorzuge prinzipiell schlanke Programme. Wenn mir allerdings ein "fettes" Programm mehr Nutzen bringt, dann nehme ich halt dieses. Wer mit 1 MB auskommen will, kann ja mit dillo surfen.

Wirklich schlimm ist ja der Speicherverbrauch von Java-Programmen. Eclipse kommt auf 250 MB und mehr - das find ich schon bedenklich. Da frage ich mich, ob die automatische Speicherverwaltung von Java wirklich funktioniert - dank Garbage Collection braucht ja der Programmierer wirklich kein free() mehr und hat als Folge keine Kontrolle mehr über den wirklichen Speicherverbrauch seiner Anwendung.
