ALTERED CARBON is set in a future where consciousness is digitized and stored in cortical stacks implanted in the spine, allowing humans to survive physical death by having their memories and consciousness "re-sleeved" into new bodies. The story follows specially trained "Envoy" soldier Takeshi Kovacs, who is downloaded from an off-world prison and into the body of a disgraced cop at the behest of Laurens Bancroft, a highly influential aristocrat. Bancroft was killed, and the last automatic backup of his stack was made hours before his death, leaving him with no memory of who killed him and why. While police ruled it a suicide, Bancroft is convinced he was murdered and wants Kovacs to find out the truth.

Joel Kinnaman to Star in Netflix Sci-Fi Series ‘Altered Carbon’

Joel Kinnaman will star in Netflix’s sci-fi series “Altered Carbon,” Variety has learned. Miguel Sapochnik (“Game of Thrones”) is set to direct the first episode of the 10-episode series, which was ordered earlier this year by the streaming giant.

Blade Runner und William Gibsons Romane - zumindest aber Neuromancer - haben Altered Carbon maßgeblich beeinflusst. Die Buchvorlage ist ein SF/Crime-Hybrid mit Noir-Feeling; explosive Action garniert mit einer ordentlichen Portion Gewalt, einem hohen "Fuck!"-Count und Morgan-typisch äußerst expliziten Sex-Szenen (read: pr0n). Intelligenter, plausibler Plot in einer gut ausgebildeten Welt.

Ich lasse mich mal überraschen, aber Kinnaman als Kovacs ist nicht ganz so, wie ich mir Kovacs vorgestellt habe. In einem Interview von 2005 hat Richard K. Morgan auch eher eine andere Meinung vertreten:

As to casting Kovacs, I've got nothing against either Brad Pitt or Johnny Depp - I think they're both fine actors, and in Pitt's case at least much under-rated. But my image of the Ryker sleeve Kovacs wears in Altered Carbon is much closer to the old school of noir movie hard men - something like Lee Marvin in Point Blank or Burt Lancaster in The Midnight Man. Ryker is supposed to be big and blunt and in his early forties. I think the best suggestion anyone's come up with for casting that from today's ranks of leading men is Benicio del Toro with a razored hair. Or maybe Bruce Willis, but I think he's getting a little old for the part these days.

Joel Kinnaman hat mir schon in The Killing (US remake) sehr getaugt, bin froh mal wieder eine serie mit ihm zu sehn.

Macht gute Stimmung der Trailer, die ewige Frage ob man vorher noch schnell das Buch lesen soll oder ob das einem die Serie vermiest.
