Hiho,
ich versuch mich grade nach fast 3 Jahren wieder einmal an einer Gentoo Installation. Da ich bereits Colo die meiste Zeit belagere, hab ich mir gedacht ich frag auch hier mal im Forum.
Grub mag sich nicht mit mir anfreunden und wimmelt mich immer wieder mit der Meldung "Error 21" ab - anscheinend findet er die Platte nicht.
Bei der Installation habe ich mich recht strikt an die Vorgangsweise im Gentoo Manual gehalten.
grub.conf:

Das heißt also, der Bootvorgang schlägt fehl?
An dem config-File scheint alles richtig, sofern auch die Pfade zum Kernel-Image stimmen.
/boot-Filesystem und ATA-Treiber sind brav im Kernel integriert?
EDIT: grub hat auch auf meinem Notebook einmal herumgesponnen; ob es da error21 gewesen ist kann ich jetzt nicht mehr sagen, aber: probier alternativ einmal grub nicht auf hda1, sondern hda3 zu installieren - hat bei mir damals geholfen.

danke für die Antwort. ATA Treiber sollten richtig sein, allerdings hat das ja nichts mit Grub zu tun, oder?
FS auf der Boot Part. ist ext2.

Naja, wenn's ganz blöd hergeht greif ich wieder auf LILO zurück, es wurmt mich nur gerade.
Ich hab auch ka wieso, aber ich hatte das problem auch, ich hab "kernel /boot/kernelimage" einfach auf "kernel /kernelimage" geändert und es hat geklappt, ich glaub das hängt damit zusammen, ob man /dev/hda1 beim entpacken des stage archives bereits gemountet hatte oder nicht.
Mir kommt jedenfalls vor, dass der softlink in boot "boot" fehlt und er deswegen das kernel image nicht findet. Kann natürlich auch sein, dass der kernel wirklich nicht da ist, wo er sein sollte.
Wenn du ganz sicher gehen willst kannst du auch anfangen mit "kernel=(hd0,0)/kernelimage"
Aber auch mal wieder schön eine nackte menu.lst zu sehen, wenn das system erstmal läuft vergiss nicht bootsplash und suspend 2 auf den vanilla kernel draufzupathen, framebuffer wär natürlich auch kein fehler, dann hat das gentoo erst seine sexyness ^^
EDIT: wenn du im grub "c" drückst kannst du die befehle von hand eingeben, da kommst du leichter was schief geht, in der grub console einmal "help" eingeben und du siehst alles was geht und ja du kommst um das ami keyboard layout nicht herum, kliner tipp "-" ist "/"
Ich schaetz mal dein BIOS ist buggy und verwirrt GRUB mit einer falschen Reihenfolge der Disks, falls du mehrere am Controller haengen hast.
Schon mal ein BIOS-Update in Betracht gezogen?
Ja das ist wohl ein BIOS Fehler. Probier dich im Grub mit dem Map Befehl ein bisschen zu spielen (also map (hd1) (hd0) oder wie das geht), das wirkt oft Wunder

danke für eure Antworten. Hab dann einfach auf LILO zurückgegriffen, Hauptsache es funktioniert. Vielleicht spiel ich mich später noch ein mal damit.
Derzeit beschäftigt mich allerdings ein anderes Problem; vielleicht könnt ihr mir ja hierbei auch helfen.
Und zwar bekomm ich es nicht zusammen, eine Auflösung >1024x768 einzustellen.

1. Hau das wacom ding raus, aus dem log kommt raus, dass du keins angesteckt hast
2. ich würd dir empfehlen in deiner keyboard section " Option "XkbVariant" "nodeadkeys"" dazuzugeben, sonst hast du ein anderes keyboardlayout
3. ich glaub im gentoo wird der open source nvidia treiber "nv" genannt und der proprietäre nvidia, welche karte hast du im VIDEO_CARDS="xxx" in deiner /etc/make.conf? Wenn du den nv treiber nimmst schreib auf nv rein, wenn du den proprietären hast hau alles dri bezogene raus. Dri gibts nur bei open source treibern

Ja, ich benutze den proprietären Treiber. Wenn ich nur mit nv fahre, ist schon bei 800x600 Schluss und die Frequenz ist nicht mehr im richtigen Bereich. Warum auch immer, ich gebe die Frequenz ja selbst an 
@that: habe die Option nun hinzugefügt, hat sich leider nichts geändert. Er verzichtet zwar nun darauf, 1280x1024 habe ich dennoch nicht zur Verfügung.

Und was ist mit acpi und dem rest, den ich dir geschrieben hab? Ja in dem Abschnitt stänkert er auch wegen der Auflösung herum, aber bei den Acpi fehlermeldungen setzt er im endeffekt die auflösung auf 1024x768
Ist das jetzt eine nvidia-drivers oder nvidia-legacy-drivers supportete Karte?
Geforce 7600 GS --> wohl kaum nvidia-legacy.
Jetzt seh ichs erst, du limitierst ja die Zeilenfrequenz auf 51 kHz, da geht sich 1280*1024 ja gar nicht aus.

Was passiert, wenn du UseEDID und NoDDC entfernst, und bei HorizSync und VertRefresh die richtigen Daten deines Monitors einträgst?
ACPI Support hab ich mitkompiliert, den daemon noch nicht.
