One can switch to using a standard DVD for things that he decides are not worth the additional cost of a LightScribe disc; Basically one can use LightScribe as often or as rarely as he/she likes.

LightScribe aside, the ASUS DRW-1612BL is no slouch in terms of reading and writing performance. If you are all set to spend the extra money and use LightScribe, this is a drive you want to take into consideration.
