In terms difference from the ATI reference specification for the Sapphire Radeon X800 PRO you can see that there really isn't any - the performances between the ATI and Sapphire boards are nigh on exactly the same, at least within the margin of error for the benchmarks. This shouldn't come as much surprise as Sapphire are owned by PC Partner, who are charged with making many of ATI's own brand and OEM boards; the initial Sapphire version appear to have come straight off these lines and slipped into retail - indeed, if you peel back the heatsink sticker you'll see the ATI printing on it! However, at least purchasers can be assured that the quality of these boards are up to ATI's standards.

In terms of performances we see that, certainly in the case of DirectX, where ATI state most of their optimisations efforts have been going due to the number of titles that are released utilising the API, the X800 PRO is offering a healthy performance increases over ATI's previous high end board, the Radeon 9800 XT, to the tune of about 50% or greater in non system limited situations. It appears that there is still some work to go on with OpenGL, however as ATI points out there aren't exactly many titles right now that really require lots of extra performance - however that situation will change when the likes of Doom3 and Serious Sam 3 appear, which are going to make much greater use of shaders and other features that have now been integrated into OpenGL's core.
