Kann ich Linux ohne Probleme auf eine externe USB Platte installieren, ohne das sich an der internen HD (Win2k) etwas am Bootsector ändert?
Ich möchte dann Linux über das Bios starten können wenn ich von USB booten auswähle.
Welche Distri würdet ihr empfehlen? Würde es auch mit einer externen Serial ATA Platte funzen, die an einem PCMIA Adapter steckt? Funzen alle Geräte bei einem Dell Latitude D810? Wie hoch ist die Performance auf einer externen USB2 Disk?

Wenn dein Notebook von der externen Platte booten kann, sollte das kein Problem sein.

Ja kann es. Welche Distri würdet ihr empfehlen für mein Notebook? Sollte möglichst einfach zu bedienen sein. Währe super wenns schon firefox und thunderbird inkludiert hätte.

SUSE Linux wird eine recht gute Notebookunterstützung nachgesagt.

Ubuntu 5.04 Hoary Hedgehog

Kommt aber mit Evolution statt Thunderbird.

was ist an ubuntu so besonders ?? nicht das ich jetzt um sonst sauge..

einfache installation, gutes packet-manager system, gnome desktop - leicht zu bedienen, einfache wartung/konfiguration.

Einfach eine anfängerfreundliche Distribution die leicht zu handhaben ist...
