Ich seh grad, dass das Fedora Core 1 beim Booten den Microcode von meinem PIII updated.

Wofür ist das Update gedacht? Bugfixes oder Speed?

microcode is imho im bios das de rprozesssor richtig erkannt wird
der is normal fix im prozessor eingebrannt und wird dann vom bios erkannt damit das die richtigen settings einstellt

Was Microcode ist, weiß ich. Anhand dieses Codes setzt die CPU die x86 CISC Befehle in interne RISC µOps um.

Es stimmt, der ist in die CPU "eingebrannt" und wird beim Einschalten von dort geladen. Seit PPro kann man den aber auch softwaremäßig updaten (bleibt nur bis zum nächsten Boot erhalten). EDIT: Ähhh, es gibt ihn auch erst seit PPro :) Etliche BIOSe (vorwiegend Notebooks) machen davon auch Gebrauch.

Womit meine Frage noch immer gänzlich unbeantwortet ist.
