For a workstation environment, it’s a toss-up. The Opteron used to dominate these performance benchmarks, but Intel’s new high-end Xeons are certainly giving them a run for their money. Depending on which application you use, the Xeon can, in many cases, provide faster performance compared to AMD’s top of the line Opteron, which is a pretty major feat. Some applications still get confused when there are eight locigal processors in the system, although this can be remedied by simply disabling Hyper-Threading in the motherboard’s BIOS. Clock speed dependant applications will likely run better on Intel hardware, whereas memory bandwidth and latency dependant benchmarks will run better on AMD hardware.

nett aber FB-Dimm sind für mich und den meisten IT leuten noch etwas suspekt und werden erst in einem jahr zum argument werden, wer weis was AMD dan hat?

Naja uninteressant ist vor allem das Mainboard nicht, es kommen ja jetzt die woodcrest und die sind gleicht teuer wie die Conroe nur kann ich mir so halt, wenn es vernünftige Maonboards gibt, leicht einen Quadcore realisieren, die Dinger sind ja deutlich billiger, als die die 5000 vorgänger.

Dien Link ist zwar nicht schlecht, du hast nur übersehen, das das mainboard keinen einzigen PCI-E 16x Steckplatz hat, wo soll ich also die graka montieren.

Ja das ist mir schon klar, aber wenn man ein ding für simulationen und andere berechnungen braucht, dann ist man halt froh, wenn das ding auch noch eine vernünftige graka beherbergen kann, weil bei einem quadcore noch einen zweiten rechner zum zeitweiligen spielen zu holen ist doch eher sinnlos vergebenes Geld.

Weiters haben die meisten Serverboard keine vernünftige Unterstützung von Dual-Monitor-DVI. Ich will doch bei einer berechnung nicht dauernd auf einem anderen PC sitzen und ihn über Remote kontrollieren. Bei Dual-CPU Mainboards ist die Verwendung für den Desktop halt noch ziemlich wahrscheinlich, bei einem Quad-CPU oder mehr bin ich auch der Meinung, das jeder Grafikkarten Unterstützung sinnlos ist.

Ist mir schon klar, aber die Dual Boards sind ja noch eher mickrige Server und für die neuen Woodcrest bleibt einfach nur der 5000 Chipset als Plattforum und deshalb muss ich wohl oder übel bei diesem Chipsatz nach Lösungen suchen.
