First and foremost, The Burning Crusade allows WoW players to smash through that Level 60 ceiling, pushing the upper echelon to Level 70. Of course clawing up those extra ten levels isn’t going to be easy, but then I guess that’s the whole point. There will be new spells and abilities to learn above Level 60 – Mages for example, will have the chance to achieve invisibility. To facilitate your elevation to the heady heights of Level 70, you’ll have to take a trip though the Dark Portal and explore an all new continent called Outland.

[..]Difficulty levels can now also be set when embarking on a quest. A quest can be undertaken at Normal or Hard level. If a party embarks on a Level 60 quest at Normal difficulty, the players will encounter equivalent monsters, but if the same quest is undertaken at Hard difficulty, then the monsters will be a few rungs up the food chain. This will add an extra challenge for high level players, especially when they’re close to, or have achieved a Godlike Level 70 status.

Besides the extended levels and new continent, the biggest additions in Burning Crusade are the two new races – the Draenei and the Blood Elves. The Draenei represent the new addition to the Alliance, while the Blood Elves make camp with the Horde. There’s no love lost between the Draenei and the Blood Elves, especially since it was the Blood Elves who sabotaged the Draenei spaceship, causing it to crash land on Azeroth in the first place.

[...]Going back to the subject of jewelcrafting; this new profession will open up a whole new area era of special items. Once trained in jewelcrafting you can create trinkets which can imbue you with a modest bonus, but the real beauty of jewelcrafting is the ability to create gems. Placing a gem into a socketed item will imbue that item with bonus powers.

Will there be any... what I noticed is that the Alliance hub and the Horde hub are quite close together. Is the idea that it'll be one almighty scrap?

Frank Pearce:
I don't know about an almighty scrap, but all the Outland zones are going to be contested territory. And there'll be outdoor PvP objectives, or goals to have outdoor PvP objectives in all those zones. Whether or not we'll hit them all up at once with PvP objectives remains to be seen. But that's our goal.

The outdoor PvP objectives in the zone of Nagrand involve the town of Halaa If you don't control that town, if your faction doesn't control that town then you'll have PvP objectives to kill the guards and whatnot and part of that will involve strafing runs over the town 'on rails' where you'll drop bombs. That should be fun.

Is TBC going to available via digital distribution as well as traditional retail?

Frank Pearce:
That's a really good question. Actually, it's something we're talking about. The retailers, and our relationship with traditional retailers, is something that's really important to us. We are doing digital distribution of the original client in North America, and it's something we're talking about for Europe. But no final plans there yet. It's something we're talking about, but no final plans for The Burning Crusade.
