also, ich hab sowas noch nie gemacht, und deshalb frag ich lieber mal nach bevor ich einfach drauflos pfusche.
ich hab in meinem server eine 2,5gig hdd stecken, und jetzt würd ich gern nochmal eine (baugleiche) platte dazuhängen. wie läuft das dann mit der erkennung der platte durchs OS (debian 3.0), und was muss ich genau machen, um die platte nachher als meinetwegen /data zur verfügung zu haben?

je nachdem wo du sie dranhängst wirds als /dev/hd[b,c,d, ....] erkannt
am einfachsten dmesg anschaun

dann mit fdisk /dev/hd[b,c,d, ...] partitionieren - vermutlich am gscheitstn einfach eine primäre partition anlegen

dann mit mkfs das filesystem anlegen und nach wunsch in /etc/fstab eintragen.
